{"id":191344,"date":"2025-08-06T13:00:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T12:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.retailgazette.co.uk\/?p=191344"},"modified":"2025-08-06T13:00:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T12:00:18","slug":"currys-phone-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.retailgazette.co.uk\/blog\/2025\/08\/currys-phone-theft\/","title":{"rendered":"Currys trials pavement markings to tackle phone theft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tech retailer Currys has launched a new campaign to spotlight the issue of phone theft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Backed by London&#8217;s Westminster Council, with support from the Metropolitan police service and Crimestoppers, the \u201cMind the Grab\u201d pilot study sees a purple line and signs added to the pavement on Oxford Street.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The line, inspired by the London Underground \u201cmind the gap\u201d catchphrase, serves as a reminder to pedestrians to step back from the kerb, keep their phones hidden and reduce their risk of snatch and grab theft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Institute for Crime and Justice Policy Research (ICPR) is carrying out a study to track how the line affects people\u2019s behaviour and whether it contributes to a drop in phone theft in the area. It\u2019s time to draw the line on phone theft, that\u2019s why we\u2019ve launched the Mind he Grab campaign, a bold pavement marking we believe can make a real difference by encouraging people to step back from the kerb.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He added: \u201cThis trial aims to raise awareness and encourage behaviour changes to help people feel safer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd if the worst happens, we\u2019re here to help. Our Oxford Street store colleagues will support victims, from calling loved ones and the police, to cancelling cards and helping them get home safely. Because practical, human support in those moments really matters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The move builds on Currys\u2019 prior initiatives to support crime prevention.
